Nicole's upcoming exhibitions include In Ascend at Samara Contemporary April 6th -25th in Toronto, a solo exhibition in 2020 at the University of Arkansa and in New York the following year.  Currently she lives and works in Toronto, CAN.

ABOUT THE WORK

There is a painstaking aspect to the way Nicole makes a painting,  her pictures are built as much as they are painted.  They are so well built , so beautiful and elaborate, her audience continues to grow in tandem with her deep relationship to painting, especially modern expressive abstraction.

The paintings of Nicole Katsuras are uniquely innovative, One of the early pioneers of a technique that involves mixing oil paint into a personal palette of colours, then using an improvised system of irregular mark-making tools to apply the paint onto the surface of the canvas.  a single square inch of canvas could support layers of extrusions piled an inch high.  For this reason, Nicole was invited to exhibit in Material Matters 2012-2013 at ThE Courtauld Institute of Art, celebrating both established and emerging contemporary artists who use pioneering media or re-interpret traditional forms of representation.

Nicole’s paintings are full of paradox and influence; painterly gestures take from genres diverse as still-life, and portraiture to create figure-ground relationships for the viewer to experience as both objects in space and as an ethereality that is open to personal meaning, joy and wonder.

Nicole’s most recent work features a series of bold compositional and chromatic ideas that she has been focusing on since 2007. In the decade since graduation from Central Saint martins Masters of Fine Arts, Nicole Katsuras has been collected by prominent Canadian collectors like David Mirvish, who specializes in the ongoing legacy of modern painting,  Father Daniel Donovan’s historically significant Canadian collection as well as a number of private collections from Vancouver to Toronto, New York to ISTANBUL.
